Aaron D. Berg, President & Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Berg is responsible for all commercial and business development activities for Essentialis. Mr. Berg has 20+ years experience in the commercialization of pharmaceutical and biotechnology products, with positions of increasing responsibility with Bristol-Myers Squibb, Schering Plough and GlaxoSmithKline. Mr. Berg's broad commercial experience includes new product launches, lifecycle planning, portfolio development, joint venture operations, sales force leadership and business development. Prior to joining Essentialis, Mr. Berg served as VP Sales and Marketing for Kos Pharmaceuticals, until Kos was acquired by Abbott Laboratories in December, 2006. His commercial expertise in lipid therapy and understanding of the compound DCCR led Essentialis to tap Mr. Berg as president and now CEO. Mr. Berg holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from University of Maryland, and is currently a Board Member of the American Heart Association.
Neil M. Cowen, PhD, MBA, Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. Cowen has directed the development programs of the company since its founding, most recently as CSO and previously as founding CEO of Essentialis. Prior to Essentialis, Dr. Cowen served as VP Strategic Development of Epicyte Pharmaceutical, a private biotechnology company. Prior to Epicyte, Dr. Cowen functioned in various business development and research management roles in Dow Chemical and a venture backed company acquired by Dow.
